Acura Integra Lift Support allows the rear hatch to lift smoothly and remain overhead to provide the driver with safe hands-free access to cargo. Each Lift Support is a gas-charged strut that stores energy under pressure and discharges it upon the hatch reaching halfway, pushing the lid up and locking it in place for as long as necessary. Early Acura versions, modern editions, and the updated Type S all use the same basic principle of gas springs, so visible differences focus on the rod length and pressure values in each Lift Support, based more on the weight of each body style of Integra than on new mechanisms. Whether fitted to the Acura classic three-door Integra, the later four-door sedan, or the revived modern Integra hatch, the Lift Support pair is perfectly matched so that the internal pressure is equal to the mass of the lid and provides a constant glide rather than a sudden jerk. - Q: How to remove and install the liftgate lift support, latch, and lock cylinder on an Acura Integra?A:Open the liftgate and remove the trim cover along with the latch mounting screws. Disconnect the actuating rod, detach any electrical connectors, and then take out the latch from the liftgate, reversing the process for installation. For the lock cylinder, remove the bolt securing it, detach the actuating rod, rotate the lock cylinder, and pull it out, again reversing the process for installation. To work on the support struts, open the liftgate and support it securely. Use an open-end wrench to remove the ballstud nut at the upper end of the strut. Detach the trim cover and pry off the retaining clip from the lower end's locating pin, then pull the lower end off and remove the strut from the vehicle. Some models may have retaining bolts at both ends of the strut; in such cases, simply remove the bolts to detach the strut. Installation follows the reverse of removal.
