Acura Legend Water Pump Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace a water pump on Acura Legend?
A: Disconnect the negative battery terminal from the battery. Empty out the cooling system. Keep and reuse it if coolant is fairly new or in good condition. Remove fan, alternator, power steering pump and Air conditioning belts respectively. Lose timing belt. Take off any accessory brackets on top of water pump. Unbolt and disconnect water pump from engine block. Tap with a wooden mallet if necessary to free up the pump. Remember where each different bolt size came from when removing them one at a time . Clean bolt holes in engines where there are corroded threads and sealant residues; remove corrosion from bolt threads . Ensure that the new pump look exactly like the old one before installing it. Get rid of all remnants of old gasket sealer/cut-outs/sealants and o-rings on the engine block surfaces as well as mating/water-pump surfaces. Use lacquer thinner or acetone to clean up both the engine and new water pump face/engine side mounting surface . Coat groove for O-ring with very thin layer of ATV sealant then carefully insert a new O-ring into it . Push in place until seated properly before proceeding with other tasks . Press firmly against groove 0-ring seal inside this hole at its maximum depth , without worrying about misalignment: this way, you can ensure proper positioning instead of being concerned about possible displacements because all efforts were made during installation process only make sure we do not have anything wrong again! Attach water pump to motor slowly turning bolts by hand into their respective holes after routing them through their appropriate openings attaching assembly points where brackets are used; finger tighten these fasteners so they don't strip out threads while tightening down too much on others making it difficult during later stages such as putting back some things which may take longer than expected otherwise due lack proper access points (for example: removing an air cleaner duct). Put remaining bolts back in place also making sure it holds something else like an accessory bracket if there is one attached to it currently . Tighten in quarter turns until torqued down; never overtighten them as this might distort the pump itself! Reinstall all parts that were taken off just to get at the pump. Fill radiator with fresh coolant and bleed air from system check belt deflection conditions again prior starting your engine. Run engine and inspect for any seepage.
