Supplemental Restraint System (SAS), or simply airbags, are standard on all models and consist of two airbags for driver and front seat passenger to protect occupants from serious injury from head on or frontal collisions. In the SRS system, there are an SRS unit having an impact sensor, a seating sensor, a self diagnosis circuit and a back up power circuit, which is located under the dash and airbag assemblies in the steering wheel and dash. LATER CR-V models have front seatbelt tensioners that are activated to take up slack in the seatbelts during an impact like airbags. Both impact and seating sensors have to be activated for airbags to deploy; if the battery fails a back up power provides the necessary power.
