Detach the cable from the negative terminal of the battery, ensuring you have the correct activation code for the radio if it has an anti-theft system. Mark and detach the electrical connector and any ground straps from the alternator. Loosen the alternator adjusting bolt and pivot bolt, then detach the drivebelt by loosening the adjustment bolt at the top and the pivot bolt at the bottom of the alternator. For Civic and Integra models, partially remove the driveaxle beneath the alternator by detaching the lower control arm from the shock absorber damper fork and the steering knuckle, and separate the outer end of the left driveaxle from the wheel hub. On Integra models, unbolt the intermediate shaft support bearing from the engine block, then remove the adjusting and pivot bolts to lower the alternator from the engine. For CR-V models, detach the power steering hose from the bracket and position it aside, remove the bracket, and take out the Intake Air Temperature sensor from the intake manifold for additional clearance. If necessary, remove the master cylinder mounting nuts, pull the master cylinder off the power booster, and position it aside without disconnecting the lines. Remove the alternator adjusting bolt and upper bracket, then the pivot bolt to take out the alternator from the engine compartment. If replacing the alternator, bring the old one to ensure the new or rebuilt unit matches in appearance, terminal configuration, and identification numbers. Many new or rebuilt alternators may not come with a pulley, so check the shop's policy regarding switching pulleys. Installation is the reverse of removal, followed by adjusting the drivebelt tension and checking the charging voltage to verify proper operation of the alternator.
