To remove the valve cover, first disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery, ensuring you have the correct activation code for the radio if it has an anti-theft system. Next, remove the spark plug wires from the spark plugs and the retaining clips on the valve cover, marking each wire for correct installation, then position the wires aside. Detach any hoses or wires from the throttle body or valve cover that may obstruct the removal process, and wipe the valve cover thoroughly to prevent debris from contaminating the exposed cylinder head or camshaft valve train assembly. Remove the valve cover bolts and carefully lift off the valve cover and gasket, using a rubber mallet to break the seal if the gasket is stuck, avoiding prying to prevent damage to the mating surfaces. For installation, remove the old gasket and clean the mating surfaces of the cylinder head and valve cover with a rag soaked in lacquer thinner or acetone. Apply beads of RTV sealant to the corners where the cylinder head meets the rocker arm assembly, allowing the sealant to set for about five minutes until slightly hardened, especially in damp or cold conditions. Install a new molded rubber gasket into the groove around the valve cover perimeter, lubricate the sealing grommets with soapy water, and tighten the bolts in the recommended sequence to the specified torque. Finally, complete the installation by reversing the removal steps, ensuring the rubber spark plug seals are in place before reconnecting the spark plug wires.
