Loosen the wheel lug nuts, raise the vehicle, and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the wheel and install the lug nuts to hold the disc in place against the hub flange. If the lug nuts don't contact the disc when screwed on all the way, install washers under them. If checking the rear disc, release the parking brake. Remove the brake caliper while leaving the brake hose connected and suspend the caliper out of the way with a piece of wire. Remove the two caliper mounting bracket-to-knuckle bolts as equipped. Visually check the disc surface for score marks, cracks, and other damage; light scratches and shallow grooves are normal, but deep score marks may require disc refinishing or replacement. Check both sides of the disc, and if pulsating has been noticed during brake application, suspect disc runout. To check disc runout, place a dial indicator about 1/2-inch from the outer edge of the disc, set the indicator to zero, and turn the disc, ensuring the reading does not exceed the specified allowable runout limit. If refinishing or replacement is not necessary, deglaze the brake pad surface on the disc with emery cloth or sandpaper using a swirling motion. It's critical that the disc not be machined to a thickness under the specified minimum thickness, which can be checked with a micrometer. Remove the lug nuts or the two disc retaining screws and take the disc off the hub. If the disc is stuck, thread two bolts into the holes provided and alternate tightening them until the disc is free. On rear discs, ensure the parking brake is released and adjust the parking brake shoes if necessary. Place the disc onto the flange, install the disc retaining screws, and tighten them securely. If there is rust on the hub flange or the disc where it mounts, clean these surfaces and lightly coat them with anti-seize lubricant before installation. Adjust the parking brake shoes on rear discs, install the caliper mounting bracket and caliper, tightening the bolts to the specified torque values. Install the wheel and lug nuts, lower the vehicle, and tighten the lug nuts to the specified torque. Depress the brake pedal a few times to bring the brake pads into contact with the disc, and check the operation of the brakes carefully before driving the vehicle.

Place a dial indicator at a point about 1/2-inch from the outer edge of the disc, set the indicator to zero, and turn the disc. The indicator reading should not exceed the specified allowable runout limit.
