    Q:
How to remove and install Clutch Disc and Pressure Plate on Acura Integra? Posted by Customer
    A:
Access to the clutch components is typically achieved by removing the transaxle while keeping the engine in the vehicle. If the engine is being removed for major overhaul, it is advisable to check the clutch for wear and replace any worn components, as the low cost of clutch components justifies their replacement whenever the engine or transaxle is removed, unless they are new or in excellent condition. To begin, remove the transaxle from the vehicle and support the engine, preferably with an engine hoist from above, or use a jack with a piece of wood to protect the oil pan. The clutch fork and release bearing can remain attached to the transaxle housing during this process. To support the clutch disc during removal, install a clutch alignment tool through the clutch disc hub. Inspect the flywheel and pressure plate for indexing marks, and if they are not visible, create your own marks to ensure proper alignment during reinstallation. Loosen the pressure plate-to-flywheel bolts gradually in a criss-cross pattern until all spring pressure is relieved, then remove the bolts, pressure plate, and clutch disc. During inspection, check the flywheel for cracks and other defects, and if necessary, have it machined flat and smooth. Inspect the clutch disc lining for sufficient thickness and any signs of damage, and replace it if there is any doubt about its condition. The release bearing should also be replaced along with the clutch disc, and the condition of the pilot bearing should be checked. Examine the pressure plate for score marks, cracks, and signs of overheating, replacing it if damaged. Before installation, clean the machined surfaces of the flywheel and pressure plate thoroughly to remove any oil or grease. Position the clutch disc and pressure plate against the flywheel, ensuring proper installation with the alignment tool. Tighten the pressure plate-to-flywheel bolts finger tight, then center the clutch disc and tighten the bolts in a criss-cross pattern to avoid distortion. After snugging all bolts, tighten them to the specified torque and remove the alignment tool. Lubricate the inner groove of the release bearing and the contact areas of the release lever and transaxle input shaft bearing retainer with high-temperature grease, then install the clutch release bearing and reassemble the transaxle along with all previously removed components.
