First of all, detach the cable from the negative battery terminal to remove the distributor. Disconeect the vacuum hose(s) from the vacuum advance diaphragm, if present and remove the clamps and wire harness connectors to the distributor; also mark the wires and hoses for the reinstall. On the 1988 & 89 Integra models, remove the primary wires from the coil. The number one cylinder spark plug wire terminal is identified by looking for a raised numbered or letter on the distributor cap or by tracing the wire from the number one spark plug. Turn the engine so the rotor points toward the number one spark plug terminal, and remove the distributor cap. We use two marks on the distributor base which is directly below the rotor tip and also one mark between the distributor base and the cylinder head for reinstall proper alignment. If not already done, unplug the igniter wires, remove the distributor hold down bolt(s) and remove the distributor, turning the crankshaft so as not to turn the distributor out of the distributor hold down. If the crankshaft has moved, the number one piston can be repositioned at TDC, by feeling for the compression pressure in the number one plug hole while turning the crankshaft. Once you have install the new O ring you replace the distributor housing in the cylinder head. Be sure the lugs and grooves allow the distributor housing to be installed correct (our way). Completely recheck the alignment marks and then loosely install the hold down bolt(s). You are finally ready to pull the air cleaner, head off to the junkyard, and get everything completed and burned in an ignition triangle, all according to the removal steps in reverse, checking all of the ignition timing, then retorque the distributor hold down bolts tight.
