    Q:
How do you properly test and replace fuel injectors on Acura Legend? Posted by Customer
    A:
Warm the engine to it's normal operating temperature and start the engine. On Legend models, test the injectors without first disconnecting the EACV 2P connector. Remove each injector one at a time, while engine is running and after idling, using a scribe or small screw driver to break the spring clip and listen for any change in engine performance while recording the change in idle speed and reconnect. If the idle speed drop is the same in each cylinder, the injectors are working correctly, if unplugging one injector does not change the idle speed, continue to step 2. Remove the connector from the injector, turn the engine off and measure the resistance between the two terminals of the injector should be between 1.5 to 2.5 ohms, otherwise replace the injector. If the resistance is correct, connect a high impedance voltmeter or a special injector harness test light to the automobile electrical connector. Now, if the voltage on your injector is between zero and two volts, then the injector is good; if there is no voltage, then check your injection resistor, if good then bad wiring would probably be susceptible to short circuits, breaks or bad connections. Relieve the fuel pressure then detach the cable from the negative battery terminal. Unplug the injector connectors, detach your fuel return and vacuum hose from the fuel pressure regulator, if this is necessary, and remove any of the ground cables from the fuel rail. Separate from the fuel rail the fuel lines, remove the locking nuts and lift the fuel rail and injectors. If necessary, remove the phenolic spacers on a Legend model. First, remove the injectors from the fuel rail and throw away the seal rings, and remember the location of the injector O-ring and cushion ring when throwing those away. If you have any doubt, do not hesitate to replace all the injectors and O-rings, seal rings and cushion rings. Clean engine oil is used to coat the new cushion rings and slide the rings onto the injectors before clean engine oil is used to coat the new O rings and install them onto the injectors and then insert that injector into the appropriate bore in the fuel rail. Relectue new seal rings with some clean engine oil and dry fit them into the injector bores of the intake manifold. Install the injector and fuel rail assembly on the intake manifold making sure the centerline of the electrical connector is aligned to each injector's mark on the fuel rail, and tighten fuel rail mounting nuts to the specified torque. The rest of the installation is reversed removal. Upon installing the injector and fuel rail assembly, turn the ignition switch to ON, without starting the starter to energize fuel pump for 2 seconds or so to build fuel pressure in the fuel lines and rail and repeat the procedure 2 or 3 times, checking for fuel leakage in the fuel lines, rail, and injectors.
