    Q:
How do you remove and install the Steering Knuckle on Acura Legend? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove the components, start by taking off the heel cover if present, loosening the driveaxle nut, and loosening the wheel lug nuts. Raise the front of the vehicle and securely support it on jackstands before removing the wheel and driveaxle hub nut. Unbolt the brake hose bracket(s) from the strut or steering knuckle, then unbolt the brake caliper and hang it out of the way with a piece of wire. Remove the caliper mounting bracket and the brake disc. Disconnect the tie-rod end from the steering knuckle. For Integra models, separate the radius arm balljoint stud from the bottom of the steering knuckle, while for Legend models, separate the lower arm from the balljoint at the bottom of the steering knuckle. On Integra models, remove the pinch bolt from the upper end of the knuckle and tap the knuckle and hub assembly off the lower end of the strut. For Legend models, separate the upper end of the knuckle from the upper arm balljoint. Carefully pull the knuckle and hub assembly off the driveaxle, supporting the driveaxle with a piece of wire to prevent damage to the inner CV joint. If the hub and bearing need to be replaced, take the assembly to a dealer service department or repair shop due to the special tools and expertise required. For installation, apply a light coat of wheel bearing grease to the driveaxle splines and insert the driveaxle through the splined bore of the hub while guiding the steering knuckle into position. For Integra models, attach the upper end of the knuckle to the lower end of the strut, ensuring the tab on the strut engages with the split in the pinch joint, then install and tighten the pinch bolt. For Legend models, connect the upper end of the knuckle to the upper arm balljoint and tighten the balljoint stud nut. For Integra models, connect the lower end of the knuckle to the radius arm balljoint stud, while for Legend models, connect the balljoint on the bottom of the knuckle to the lower arm. Install the brake disc, caliper mount, and caliper, then attach the brake hose bracket(s). Install and securely tighten the driveaxle nut, followed by the wheel and lug nuts. Lower the vehicle and tighten the lug nuts to the specified torque, then tighten the driveaxle nut to the specified torque. Finally, drive the vehicle to an alignment shop to have the front end alignment checked and adjusted if necessary.
