    Q:
How to remove and replace a rear main seal without removing the oil pan or seal retainer for the Acura MDX? Posted by Customer
    A:
Remove the driveplate. The seal can be replaced without removing the oil pan or removing the seal retainer. However, the lip of the seal is quite stiff and it's possible to cock the seal in the retainer bore or damage it during installation. Pry out the old seal with a screwdriver. Carefully pry the rear main seal out - don't damage the surface of the crankshaft or the new seal will leak. Apply multi-purpose grease to the crankshaft seal journal and the lip of the new seal, then carefully drive the new seal into place with a seal driver. The lip is stiff, so carefully work it onto the seal journal of the crankshaft. Don't rush it or you may damage the seal. Drive the seal in squarely and only until it is flush with the back of the seal plate, no further. Make sure the spring side is facing in.

    Q:
How do you replace the rear crankshaft seal without removing the oil pan or seal retainer on Acura TL? Posted by Customer
    A:
Remove the driveplate. It doesn't have to be removed, the oil pan or the seal retainer, but the lip of this seal is stiff, so you can misalign it in the retainer bore or damage it during installation. Then pry out the old seal with a screwdriver. Use multi-purpose grease on the crankshaft seal journal and the new seal lip and then drive the new seal carefully into its place on the crankshaft seal drive. Because the lip is stiff, work it onto the crankshaft seal journal slowly to protect the lip. Tighten the seal in until it's flush with back of the seal plate, noting that the spring side is to the in. The remainder of the installation is in reverse order of removal.

    Q:
How should the oil seal bore be prepared before installing the new seal for the 2002 Acura MDX? Posted by Customer
    A:
The oil seal bore should be cleaned, and the outer edge of the new seal should be coated with a small amount of engine oil to facilitate installation.

    Q:
What should be done after completing the installation for the 2007 Acura TL? Posted by Customer
    A:
Run the engine and check for oil leaks at the front seal.
