- Q: How to replace the air conditioning compressor on Acura Integra?A: The air conditioning compressor is a non-serviceable unit and must be replaced with a complete unit or rebuilt by an authorized rebuild. The receiver-drier should be replaced whenever the compressor is replaced. First, have the air conditioning system refrigerant discharged by dealer service department or air conditioning repair facility. Then, disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. If the radio in your vehicle is equipped with an anti-theft system, make sure you have the correct activation code before disconnecting the battery. Set the parking brake, block the rear wheels and raise the front of the vehicle, supporting it securely on jackstands. Remove the drivebelt. Remove the power steering pump. Remove the cruise control actuator if equipped. Disconnect the refrigerant lines from the compressor. To remove the compressor, remove the bolts, disconnect the lines and plug the open fittings to prevent entry of dirt and moisture. Disconnect the compressor clutch wiring harness. Unbolt the compressor from the mounting bracket and remove it from the vehicle. The clutch may have to be transferred from the old compressor to the new unit. To calculate the amount of refrigerant oil for the new compressor, drain the refrigerant oil from the old compressor through the suction fitting and measure it in ounces or cubic centimeters. Subtract this volume from 4 fluid ounces (120 ml). The difference between these two figures is equal to the amount you should drain from the new compressor. Installation is otherwise the reverse of removal. Finally, have the system evacuated, recharged and leak tested by a dealership service department or automotive air conditioning repair facility.
