Acura TL Oil Pump Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How Is the Oil Pump Removed, Inspected, and Reinstalled on Acura TL?
A: To remove the crankshaft position sensor, Timing Belt, crankshaft sprocket, and idler pulley, start by taking off the Oil Pan and oil pick-up screen, and if present, the oil level sensor. Next, detach the oil filler adapter housing and NTEC solenoid assembly from the front of the oil pump, then remove the bolts to detach the oil pump housing from the engine, using a screwdriver to pry carefully if necessary. For inspection, use a Phillips screwdriver to take off the screws holding the pump cover, lift it off, and check the pump rotors for wear or damage; if any issues are found, replace the pump and check rotor clearances with feeler gauges, replacing the entire oil pump assembly if clearances exceed specifications. Clean the pump body and engine block with a plastic scraper to remove old sealant without damaging the aluminum. During installation, replace the old crankshaft oil seal and apply engine oil or multi-purpose grease to the seal lip. Pack the pump cavities with petroleum jelly, install the cover, apply thread-locking compound to the screws, and tighten them to the specified torque. Clean the gasket surfaces with brake system cleaner and a rag, then apply a bead of liquid gasket to the oil pump flange and bolt threads, ensuring not to use excessive sealant. Assemble parts within five minutes of sealant application, using new O-rings where applicable. Engage the oil pump drive rotor with the crankshaft, slide the pump into place, and install the mounting bolts, tightening them to the specified torque. Use a new O-ring to install the oil pick-up screen and tighten the fasteners. Complete the installation in reverse order of removal, wait 30 minutes for the sealant to cure, then add oil, start the engine, and check for leaks and pressure, rechecking the engine oil level after operation.
