- Q: How to remove the front suspension subframe and installing the oil pan on Acura TL?A: The procedure requires the removal of the front suspension subframe and is considered difficult for the home mechanic, necessitating safe vehicle support with adequate working space underneath, along with a transmission jack and engine support fixture, which can be rented. Begin by disconnecting the negative battery cable, blocking the rear wheels, and setting the parking brake. Remove the engine compartment covers and the engine cover, followed by the air cleaner and intake duct. If applicable, take out the strut brace between the shock towers, then remove the battery and battery tray, along with the power steering pump/reservoir while plugging the hoses. Install the engine support fixture and raise the engine slightly to relieve weight from the mounts. Raise the front of the vehicle securely on jack stands, remove the engine underside splash shield, drain the engine oil, and remove the oil filter. Disconnect the power steering hoses from the steering gear, and for later models with automatic transmission, remove the bracket securing the shift cable to the front subframe. Proceed to remove the front suspension subframe assembly, unbolt the exhaust pipes from the Exhaust Manifold/catalytic converter assemblies and the rear portion of the exhaust system, then remove the front portion of the exhaust system. For automatic transmission models, remove the lower transmission mount; for manual transmission models, remove both lower transmission mounts and the rear engine damper. Remove the through-bolts from the front and rear engine mounts, then take off the torque converter cover, remove the bolts, and lower the oil pan, carefully prying if necessary to avoid damaging mating surfaces. For installation, use a scraper to remove old sealant from the block and oil pan, clean the mating surfaces, and ensure the threaded bolt holes in the block are clean. Inspect the oil pump pick-up screen assembly for damage or blockage, apply sealant to the oil pan mating surface, and install the oil pan within four minutes of sealant application. Position the oil pan on the engine block, install the bolts following the correct torque sequence, and tighten them gradually. Complete the installation in reverse order of removal, ensuring to add oil and install a new oil filter, waiting 30 minutes for the sealant to cure before adding oil. Finally, run the engine to check for oil pressure and leaks.
